RESERVE TEAM PROMOTED TO DIVISION 4

Congratulations to Steve Russell and the Reserve Team as they achieved their second successive promotion.

Promotion was achieved on the last game of the season as a late Jaffa goal gave the Reserves a 1-0 win away to Henley Athletic Reserves cemented their place in third spot.

Good luck to the boys next year in Division 4.

FIRST TEAM FAIL TO GAIN THIRD SPOT - Photos added

The First Team ended the season in disappointing fashion as they lost 3-1 Away to Parkside. Despite the Mills pressure, Parkside wrapped up the game in the second half.

Despite this result, the First Team finished a position higher than last season, 6 more points and more goals scored.

Hopefully this is a sign for better things to come and that the First Team can push harder for promotion next season.

Senior Division

Going into the final Saturday of the season any one of four teams could have won the Senior Division Championship. In the end a 1-1 home draw for Brantham Athletic against Coplestonians was just enough for them to become Champions of the SIL for the very first time, but only just!

A late run by Capel Plough almost saw them snatch the title in dramatic fashion. They won 5-0 at Westerfield United in their final match, but one more goal would have seen them tied with Brantham. A Championship decider would then have had to be played.

The other two title contenders played each other with Grundisburgh beating Melton St Audrys 4-1. 2006/07 Champions Grundisburgh thus finished third with Melton having to settle for fourth place despite leading the table coming into the final month of the season. Grundisburgh's were the only team in any Division this season to score 100 league goals and one more point would have seen them retain their title.

Division 1

St Johns clinched the second promotion spot from Division 1 with their 8-1 win at Willis on April 26th. They only entered the league in 2000 but name changes from Golden Hind Rangers to Walton Rangers and then St Johns coupled with several promotions will result in a first taste of Senior football for the Ipswich club in 2008/09.

Bramford United became the second side to be relegated from Division 1 after losing 1-0 at Mendlesham last week.

Divisions 2 and 3

Wenhaston United managed to gather in enough points from their games in hand to pip Bramford Road Old Boys for the second promotion spot from Division 2, while at the other end of the table John Bull United have joined Needham Market 'A' in relegation to Division 3. They will be replaced by Parkside United and Elmswell from Division 3 with Tacket Street Boys Brigade Old Boys becoming the third team to be relegated to Division 4.

Division 4

Trimley Red Devils needed to win their last three games to overtake Woolverstone United for the Division 4 title and this they successfully achieved. These two sides and Henley Athletic so dominated the division that only one other team - Ufford Sports - avoided a negative goal difference. Trimley's only league defeat was in their very first game of the season. 5-2 at home to Stowupland Falcons 'A'. Falcons, however, were relegated on the final Saturday after losing 2-1 at home to Wickham Market Reserves who pulled themselves out of the bottom 3 with the victory.

Division 5

A single goal victory at Henley Athletic Reserves on Saturday was enough for Albion Mills Reserves to keep above Tattingstone United for the third promotion place from Division 5 with East Bergholt United 'A' and St Clements Hospital Reserves joining Somersham Reserves in relegation from that division.

Division 6

While Woolverstone United first team just missed out on the Division 4 title on the final Saturday Woolverstone United Reserves' 9-1 victory at Dennington United was enough for them to take the Division 6 title.

Intermediate Divisions

13 victories in their final 13 matches and 52 points out of a possible 54 from their last 18 matches swept Felixstowe United Reserves to the Intermediate A title with Willis Reserves just failing to avoid a return to Intermediate B along with Westerfield United Reserves.

Achilles Reserves achieved a league and cup double by winning Intermediate B and are joined in promotion by Stonham Aspal Reserves and Stanton Reserves.
